SHUTTER STORIES
EPISODE 3 - Scroll-Stopping Content - 16/07/25
Why Every Newcastle Business Needs a Brand Photographer
And what you’re missing without one.
In a world where your online presence often speaks before you do, having strong, on-brand visuals isn’t optional — it’s essential.
If you're a Newcastle business owner, here’s why booking a brand shoot might be the best decision you make this year.
First impressions happen online
Before anyone visits your store, books your service, or picks up the phone — they’ll likely see you online.
Your website, Instagram, and Google listing are your digital front door. And if they’re filled with dark, low-res, or outdated images... you're losing trust before you’ve even said a word.
A brand photographer helps you make that first impression count.
You’ll finally have content to post
If you’ve ever said,
“I don’t know what to post on Instagram,”
this is for you.
A single brand shoot gives you weeks (sometimes months) worth of content. Think:
• Product or service in action
• Behind-the-scenes shots
• Staff headshots
• Candid team moments
• Your workspace or storefront
All delivered in high-res, ready for socials, your website, email campaigns, and more.
Stand out in the Newcastle market
There are a ton of great small businesses around here — and plenty of noise online.
Professional brand photography helps you rise above the scroll. It gives your brand a polished, consistent feel that builds trust and recognition.
When potential clients see clean, thoughtful visuals, they feel more confident choosing you.
Authenticity builds trust
People connect with people — not logos.
Brand photography puts you and your team in the spotlight. Whether you’re a creative, a builder, a PT, a café owner, or a consultant, showing your face (and your space) builds a real connection with your audience.
It’s more than just photos — it’s strategy
When we work together, I’m not just showing up with a camera. I’m helping you visually communicate your brand.
We’ll start by chatting through your goals and where these photos will live. Then we’ll build a shoot that makes sure your content feels like you — and speaks directly to your ideal customer.
You’ll walk away with:
• A full gallery of professional images
• Optimised content for website and social
• Confidence in how your brand is showing up online

EPISODE 2 - Dressed for the Moment - 24/06/25
What to Wear to Your Family Photoshoot: A Photographer’s Guide
Figuring out what to wear for your family photoshoot can feel like half the battle — but it doesn’t have to. The right outfit choices can elevate your photos, bring a sense of harmony to your gallery, and even help you feel more relaxed and confident on the day.
Here’s my go-to advice for choosing what to wear — plus a few seasonal style tips and colour combos that photograph beautifully.
Stick to Neutrals and Earthy Tones
Neutral colours — like beige, cream, soft grey, olive, dusty pinks and denim — never go out of style. They photograph well, don’t distract from your faces or expressions, and work beautifully with natural light.
Avoid loud logos, neon colours, or overly busy patterns. These can clash with the environment or distract from the moment we’re trying to capture.
Coordinate, Don’t Match
Instead of everyone wearing identical outfits (think: all in white shirts and jeans circa 2005 😅), aim for coordinated tones and textures. Pick a loose colour palette of 3–4 complementary colours and build everyone’s outfit around that.
For example:
• Soft palette: oatmeal, sage, muted blush, denim
• Warm palette: rust, cream, tan, soft mustard
• Cool palette: navy, grey-blue, soft white, forest green
Mix textures too — denim, cotton, linen, knits — it adds visual interest without overpowering the shot.
Dress for the Season
Each season offers its own vibe and lighting, so it helps to dress accordingly:
Spring 🌿
• Soft pastels, florals, light layers
• Linen dresses, button-ups, cardigans
Summer ☀️
• Light fabrics, flowy dresses, bare feet for beach sessions
• Warm-toned neutrals like sand, rust, or terracotta work beautifully in golden hour
Autumn 🍂
• Earthy tones: burnt orange, olive, cream, mustard
• Layers like knits, scarves, and boots photograph well and add depth
Winter ❄️
• Deep tones like burgundy, charcoal, navy
• Wool coats, knits, and boots can look amazing — just avoid being too bulky
Comfort = Confidence
The best thing you can wear? Something that makes you feel like you. If your kids are tugging at scratchy jumpers or you’re adjusting a too-tight dress all session — it shows.
Choose clothes that feel good, fit well, and allow you to move and interact naturally. The more comfortable you feel, the more relaxed and genuine the photos will be.
A Quick Checklist Before Your Shoot:
Lay everything out the day before
Do a quick test fit (especially for kids!)
Iron or steam anything that creases easily
Bring a backup outfit for little ones, just in case
Need a Hand Planning Outfits?
If you’re ever unsure, I’m more than happy to help you pick colours and styles that suit your shoot location and vibe. You can even send me photos of your outfit options — we’ll make it easy.
📸 Your photos should feel like you — just with a little extra magic
EPISODE 1 - NATURAL AND REAL - 09/06/25
Why Candid Photography Captures the Best Moments
When it comes to photography, the real magic happens in the in-between moments — the giggles, the glances, the unfiltered emotions. That’s why I always lean into a more natural, candid approach for both family photography and personal branding shoots.
Natural Photography Feels More Genuine
Posed photos can look great, but they often lack feeling. Natural photography captures real emotion — your child laughing mid-spin, your partner’s unguarded smile, or you doing what you love in your brand shoot. These honest moments are the ones that truly reflect who you are.
Candid Family Photos Tell Your Real Story
Every family has its own rhythm, and candid family photography celebrates that. Whether it’s your toddler reaching for your hand or a spontaneous group hug, these unscripted moments are what you’ll look back on and feel. That’s the kind of photo you’ll treasure forever.
Authentic Brand Photography Builds Trust
In branding sessions, candid photos help show the real you — not just what you do, but who you are. Whether you're pouring coffee, talking with clients, or working hands-on, authentic brand photography helps you connect with your audience in a way that posed headshots just can’t.
My Approach: Relaxed and Real
I keep things simple, low-pressure, and fun. I’ll give a little direction if needed, but most of the time, I just let you be you — whether that’s running through a park with your kids or sipping a latte in your workspace. That’s when the good stuff happens.
Let’s Capture What Really Matters
If you're after more than just a pretty picture — if you want photos that feel like you — then candid photography is the way to go.
